About

Thomassen Collective is the creative studio of Josh Thomassen. Josh is an art director and graphic designer with 17 years of experience collaborating with businesses, non-profit organizations, churches, and individuals. He is currently based in Republic, Missouri and loves creativity, business, and spending time with his wife and 4 kids.

Josh’s goal is to help you successfully navigate the world of creative projects.

Whether it’s a logo, annual report, book cover, brand identity, sermon series graphic, campaign collateral, or anything your mind can dream up, it will be skillfully crafted through collaboration and excellence (and probably lots of coffee too).

A deeper dive

Josh is also a creative that knows and loves the Church. For 7+ years (2014-2021), he served as the Senior Designer / Art Director at National Community Church in Washington, DC under the leadership of Pastor Mark Batterson.

A few of the responsibilities Josh had in that role at National Community Church:

Successfully leading digital and print design projects from idea to completion for church-wide ministries/events; supervising and mentoring a full-time graphic designer; coordinating with freelance designers; making purchases, tracking receipts and reporting those items monthly in Concur; designing and art directing sermon series branding and collateral; sourcing product and apparel vendors; managing relationships with print vendors; developing visual concepts for multiple digital and print campaigns; designing and art directing large-scale print projects; designing and managing book/editorial layout projects; designing apparel and merch; developing creative briefs and project intake forms; nurturing unformed ideas/concepts into fully-formed projects; revamping the pre-existing creative project management system; transitioning project management system into Asana; coordinating creative work between filmmakers, social media managers, designers, and production crews; and so much more!

There’s so much more that goes into “design” than meets the eye. Which is why when working with Josh, you’ll not only get a skilled eye for design but also a strategic thinker and collaborator that has worked with many visionary leaders over the past 17 years.

Josh would love to serve as a guide for your creative journey.

A few more kind words:

My church wanted to rebrand, and I knew that Josh Thomassen was the only one for the job. His ability to understand the vision and then take it from there to bring it to life is a true gift and talent. Josh made the entire process enjoyable because he cares as much as you do and he puts in the work. I love working with Thomassen Collective and will definitely be reaching out to him for future projects!

I’ve worked closely with Josh on two projects. The first was in [2017] involving branding and logo creation and the second, a recent book design [2024]. In each case the communication from Thomassen Collective, creative process, and product, have been absolutely superb.

I have been in the printing business for over 40 years and have worked with Josh Thomassen on all kind of projects from digital to offset to large format, and I have to say when I get files from him I do not have to worry about preflighting. I can take his files and go straight to press. Josh always stays on top of all his projects. He is one of the best designers that I have come across in our business.

Thomassen Collective not only provides great design work, but captures the message and heartbeat of the project. Incredible to work with, timely in delivery and would highly recommend to anyone looking for design help.

When I started up my own private practice I needed a professionally done logo that captured the spirit of what my practice is about. Thomassen Collective provided me with lots of copy proposals to look at. One especially caught the idea of discovery which is so much a part of what I do as a counselor.

Thomassen was very intuitive regarding the concept of my business and very easy to work with. I still receive many positive comments on my logo. Thank you.

The Convoy of Hope Interns are thrilled to partner with Thomassen Collective in getting the word out regarding ways to show compassion around the world. Since the earliest days of the intern program, Thomassen has played a key communications role. We love our partnership with Thomassen Collective due in part to the fabulously creative graphics, timely work, customer service, obvious dedication, and heart for people.
